New York Pizza in Brandon Florida!

The Pizza Zone is pizza heaven!

The Pizza Zone is pizza heaven!

All Pizzas are not the same! For years I have heard pizza joints claim they have the best pizza. “Chicago style pizza here!” or “New York Pizza, eat in or take out!” Until I went to The Pizza Zone right on the border of the cities of Tampa and Brandon, I did not know the difference.

Me, I’m a guy that picks up the phone and “get it done” guy.   So I call closest “we deliver fast,” national franchise brand pizza house.  I have been doing that for years.  But, apparently a lot of people do because every church function, every kids party or you name the occasion, orders the same brand name pizzas.

Well my wife came home and said they had a pizza at their school that was really good and that I should try them out.So I grabbed the trusty Flip camera and went to The Pizza Zone to give it a try.  Well there’s no sense me going on.  Watch this video to see and hear for yourself why all pizzas are not the same.

Home for the Holidays with Warrick Dunn

Tampa Bay Hero

Warrick Dunn is tough to bring down.  He has had to absorb some tough shots throughout his life.  His mantra in life seems to have been, “Get up and keep going.”  I think he knows how to fall and not get hurt.  More importantly his purpose has included his large family, whom he had to take care of while in high school after his mother was gunned down in the line of duty as a police officer.  Keeping the family together, which was torn at the seams during high school, forced him to grow up extremely early.  I’d say he learned what his strengths were at an early age.  Well, he’s Dunn it again.

Over the last 10 years, through Warrick, his mother’s memory has been honored by giving her dream of owning her own home to others.  His not-for-profit foundation has helped over 80 families including 200 children and dependents.  He is an inspiration to us all and has set the benchmark as high as one can in professional football.  He truly uses his high profile to provide a positive influence on the lives of many.

Since his high school career was marred by the tragic death of his mother, killed in the line of duty as a police officer in Baton Rouge, Dunn has done everything he could to keep not only his family together but to raise awareness and make dreams come true for families who are hard-working and independent.  These families have demonstrated they will contribute as good citizens, work hard and have to qualify to become eligible.  He has also partnered with Habitat for Humanity.

Let’s face it.  Many of us donate at the holidays.  But the Warrick Dunn Foundation has done it over 80 times throughout the last ten years.  This is something more of us should learn from as we see donations only spike during the holidays only to drop steeply again.  He is proof good things happen to good people and his ability to keep his feet on the ground is a class act.  Cheers Warrick!!!  I’m looking forward to reading his book titled, “Running for my Life.”

Florida Announces New Prep Football Districts

Check out our Tampa Bay Area Teams

The realignment of the state’s prep football districts, which includes reclassification of several local teams, is complete. Please note the bolded schools below.

The Florida High School Athletic Association, which reconfigures its districts every other year, recently released the new football districts for the next two years. Classifications are based on school population. Once classes are determined, teams are placed in districts based on geography.

Initially, the FHSAA outlined an eight-district plan for its larger classifications (3A-6A) in November, but opted to stay with 16 districts when extensive travel became a concern.

Here are the new districts featuring Tampa Bay Area teams. Schools have until Jan. 9, 2009, to submit written requests for reassignment.

Please support our schools and the high school atheletes. Read the rest of this entry »

Twitter as an Investment?

Those of you that are enamored with Twitter and those of you who like a good stock investment tip every once in awhile, take note.

On paper, it seemed like a match made in heaven: A partnership between social networking giant Facebook, in whom Microsoft (MSFT) owns a 1.6% stake, and micro blogging platform Twitter was in the works. Then Evan Williams took over as Twitter’s chief executive in October 2008, and tempting as it was, rebuffed a $500 million offer from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

Williams had his reasons. The brains behind an earlier web 2.0 darling called Blogger — which allows average Joes to share at will and was sold to Google (GOOG) in 2003. Williams stated that he didn’t think Twitter was ready to be bought out, too much unfinished business.

Twitter and or Facebook may bare watching as an investment; no doubt some big fish, i.e. Microsoft or Google and other huge web related companies are circling. I have always been a believer in investing in companies that produce goods or services that the investor is familiar in. Many of us on ActiveRain are becoming more and more familiar with Twitter and can attest to its potential value, not only as a social networking tool and a micro blogging platform, but also as a potential investment.
