A Hero in Life, A Hero in Death
September 20th, 2009 Categories: Brandon, Military Moves, Tampa
As an old law enforcement type, I felt obligated to go to a memorial service for a fallen U.S Air Force Security Officer from Mac Dill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida.
It was a very sad occasion when I learned more of the facts of this great and untimely death. It was a loss that greatly affected the officer’s family and friends, and it was a loss to all of the U.S. military forces, and as I learned, it was the first U.S Air Force Security Officer lost since Viet Nam. The Devil’s is in the Details: Closing Escrow
November 10th, 2008 Categories: Apollo Beach, Bloomingdale, Brandon, East Hillsborough Neighborhoods, First Time Home Buyers, FishHawk, Military Moves, Riverhills, Riverview, Valrico
The final phase of purchasing a home is called closing escrow or “The Closing” as real estate agents call it. The closing has six steps leading to the completion of the process. All of these steps are important and they are as follows:
An “escrow” or “sales” contract (agreement to purchase) starts the process.
STEP #2 Processing the File
Processing the file is when tax information, loan payoffs, survey if necessary, homeowner/maintenance fees, inspections/reports, and hazard and other insurances as well as legal papers are ordered and title commitments/preliminary reports are reviewed and sent out. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s Nov. 4th and I Voted For ….
November 4th, 2008 Categories: Military Moves, Riverhills
Ah yes, this day has finally arrived!
I actually love voting day. This is the best day of the election process. Yes, a lot has to do with the fact that this morning is the beginning of the end of campaigning and campaign television ads. But, there are a couple of fundamental reasons I love this day other than the end of campaigning.
The Bedside Alarm Sounded Early
The alarm went of at 5:00 AM this morning, but it was not required. Since I rise early, this mornings alarm was for security reasons. Although I seldom have the alarm as my wake up notification, I knew that minutes either way this morning would put me way back in the line to vote. There are a lot of ambitious neighbors in River Hills.
Our precinct for River Hills, in Valrico, is at the clubhouse. If your early, as I usually am, you get to sit on a chair next to the entrance doors of the poll. As the second person in line, I know that my wait to vote is limited to exactly one hour. Polls open at 7:00 AM and so the wait time for me is now established. Read the rest of this entry »

Manatee Viewing Center Open: Apollo Beach, FL
November 1st, 2008 Categories: Apollo Beach, East Hillsborough Neighborhoods, Military Moves, Things To Do
See the Manatees at the Tampa Electric Manatee Viewing Center!
The viewing center, along the warm water discharge canal at Tampa Electric’s Big Bend Power Station, is open each year from Nov. 1 to April 15. It features a wooden boardwalk over the water, garden and habitat displays, a snack bar and decks to view the manatees.
The animals are attracted to the plant’s warm water when temperatures in the bay fall below 68 degrees. On a cold day, dozens of manatees gather right off the observation decks, their snouts sticking up out of the crystal clear water.
It is reported by TECO employees that they have seen as many as 300 manatees in the canal at once. That’s approximately 10 percent of the total manatee population in Florida. Manatee Viewing Center Website http://www.tampaelectric.com/manatee/ Read the rest of this entry »
